Jerry was born on Jan. 6, 1926, the son of David D. and Marion (Schlaack) Zuhlke. He grew up in Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge. He was proud to serve his country during World War II in the Navy, and was honorably discharged on June 22, 1946. He married his childhood sweetheart on March 22, 1947, and they were married for 42 years, until Mary Jane (Buchanan) was called to join the Lord and prepare a place so they could be together in eternity.
Jerry loved to golf and had many awards and trophies to show his accomplishments. He played in many leagues and especially loved to play with his sons. He also loved to fish, work the daily crossword puzzle (in pen), build and fix golf clubs, and spent nearly 20 years coaching hockey. He enjoyed spending time at his home in Punta Gorda, Florida and was an active Elks member. He was an avid Michigan State Spartan fan.
He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife and two of his sisters, Donna (Hacker) and Patricia (Potts). He is survived by his sister Carol (Eddie) LeMay; brothers-in-law Richard Potts and Donald Hacker; his son David, PhD., his wife Jayne and their three daughters, Dana, Amanda, and Cara, all of Ypsilanti; his son Daniel and his wife Sarah of Salt Lake City, Utah and their two daughters, Corinne and Lindsay; his son Dwayne and his wife Susan of Queensbury, New York and their children Samantha, Margaret and Daniel; his son Drew and his wife Karen (Iller) and their children Ryan and Lauren; and many nieces and nephews. Special mention should be made of his loving friend and companion of the last 10 years, Pattie Peake, and her sons and grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much.
Friends may call upon the family from 2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and from 9-11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home with burial following at the Highland Ceremony.
