Gerald Young
Gerald V. Young, 85, of Gladwin died Tuesday afternoon Sept. 13, 2005 at MidMichigan Medical Center - Gladwin.
He was born June 15, 1920 in Flint, the son of Harold and Genevieve (Hager) Young. He married the former Ruth Klamer on Aug. 17, 1947 in Gladwin. He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 with the 336th Fighter Squadron of the Fourth Fighter Group and was part of the Central Europe, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns, receiving the Distinguished Unit Badge with five Bronze Stars. He was separated on Oct. 11, 1945 with the rank of staff sergeant at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation in Pennsylvania.
Gerald invented and was a patent holder for the V-bottom trailer and was a founder of Young Industries of Gladwin and worked as a steel fabricator until his ill health forced his recent retirement. He was a member of the Fourth Fighter Squadron Veterans Group. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and his work at the shop.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Young; a daughter, Carolyn (Carl) Yager of Midland; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Tracy of Midland; a brother, Kenneth Young of Gladwin; and two sisters, Jeanette (Robert) Brubaker of Gladwin and Phyllis (Bill) Beverlin of Gilbertsville, Kentucky. A funeral service was held on Friday, Sept. 16 at Sisson Funeral Home with Rev. William Winters officiating. Burial took place in Highlands Cemetery.
