Eugene D. Young

BADLY HURT BY AUTO EUGENE D. YOUNG, FORMER RESIDENT OF HIGHWOOD, STRUCK BY AUTO AT OWOSSO

A recent issue of the Owosso Argus contains the following relative to a serious accident to a former resident of Highwood.

"Eugene D. Young, Sr., aged 75, a Civil war veteran residing on Robbins street was seriously injured last night when he was struck by an automobile driven by Guy Smith of New Haven township. His right hip was fractured and it is feared that he is internally otherwise injured. He spent a very restless night, but was resting easier today.

"The accident occurred about 7 o'clock at the corner of Main and Washington streets. Mr. Young was crossing the street and it is apparent that neither the driver nor Mr. Young saw each other until the collision occurred. Mr. Young was hurled to the pavement and dragged several feet under the the front of the machine. The injured man was removed to the National hotel where first aid was rendered. Later he was taken to his home.

"Chief Patterson believes that the bright lights of an automobile standing along the curb blinded Mr. Young so that he did not see the approaching machine.

"Mr. Young was formerly employed as janitor at the post office for several years..
