PNEUMONIA IS FATAL TO M. D. WILLIAMS
Gladwin friends were shocked to learn this week of the death of Michael D. Williams, 56,
of Bronxville, N.Y. With his wife the former Donna Shaffer, Mr. Williams had frequently visited
Gladwin in recent years and was well known here. Mr. Williams died suddenly on January 30 at
Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville following an attack of pneumonia. At the time of his death he was
employed as personnel director of the Horn and Hardart Co., of New York.
A native of Albany, N.Y., Mr. Williams served during the first World War as a captain in the
Ordnance Procurement Division, both at Washington and overseas. After the war he served as a sales
executive for the General Electric Co., later becoming a mediator for the National Labor Relations
Board. Surviving are Mrs. Williams, a son Jack, and a brother, James Williams.
Judge John C. Shaffer of Gladwin, left here for Bronxville January 30th when he was notified of
his brother-in-law's death. He remained in Bronxville for funeral services at St. Joseph's church on
February 2, and returned to Gladwin on February 9.
