Walter Weirauch
Walter A. Weirauch, 87, of 2516 S. M-18, Beaverton, died Monday, Sept. 14, in
the Gladwin Area Hospital. Born in Germany on July 16, 1894, he came to Saginaw in 1895 and to
Gladwin County in 1957. Mr. Weirauch was a brick and stone mason in construction in Saginaw and
Gladwin Counties. He was a charter and life member of the DAV of Saginaw and a member of the
Bricklayers Union. Mr. Weirauch served in the cavalry in the Mexican Border War of 1916-17 and
the U.S. Army during World War I, fighting in the battle of Chateau Thierry, Meuse, Belleau Wood
and the Argonne Forest where he was wounded.
Mr. Weirauch and the former Mary Moon were married November 6, 1920, in Saginaw. Besides his
wife, he is survived by 3 sons, Robert of Naples, Fla., Walter Jr. of Bay City and Donald of
Edgewood, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A military funeral will be held
Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Gladwin County VFW, DAV and American Legion
Posts will officiate and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemete.
