MAN FOUND DEAD
EPHRAIM WHITNEY, NEAR ESTEY VICTIM OF HEART FAILURE WHILE WANDERING IN THE WOODS--BODY BADLY DECOMPOSED--INQUEST HELD.

Ephraim Whitney, 76 years old, living a few miles south of Estey, was found dead a half mile from his home last Sunday morning. He had been absent a week, but on account of his living alone his absence was not noticed until Saturday. A number of neighbors joined in searching for him, and remembering that he had been in the habit of picking berries along a ditch near the house went there to look for him, finding the body in a badly decomposed state.

Suspicion that it might be a case of murder led to notification of Sheriff Shell, who with Prosecuting Attorney Shaffer, Coroner M. H. Wright and Will Stock went there by auto to investigate. A coroner's jury was summoned who returned the following verdict, pronouncing it a case of heart failure.

State of Michigan, county of Gladwin, ss.--We, the coroner's jury empanelled to inquire into the cause of the death of Ephraim Whitney of Bentley township, Gladwin county, Michigan, do say on our oaths that we believe the said Ephraim Whitney came to his death from heart failure on Sunday, Sept. 20, 1914, in Bentley township in said county. Dated this 27th day of September, 1914. R. A. Joynt Peter Schroeder Vinton Graham J. W. Chubb William Stone William Mitchell Mr. Whitney had been a resident of Bently township 23 years, and was the owner of 80 acres a few miles south of Estey upon which he lived.
