Arlington West
Arlington B. West, 78, of 104 May St., Gladwin, died suddenly Saturday morning,
June 1, in Central Michigan Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born in Columbiaville Sept. 30, 1906, he was
a self employed flight instructor at West Port Airport in Clio. Mr. West instructed a pilot training
school for the Air Force during World War II and was a certified flight instructor and mechanic.
He retired in 1971 and moved to Gladwin. He was a past master of the Vienna Lodge 205 F & A.M. past
worthy patron of the Cli Eastern Star and was also a member of the Gladwin Masonic Lodge 397 F & A.M.
and the White Clover Chapter 84 OES. He was married to the former Mary Stelmach on Jan 11, 1928 in
Columbiaville.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Jay of Mead, Okla., and Graden of Burle, Wis.; 5
grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A brother, grandchild and great grandchild preceded him in
death. Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Sisson-Mathews Funeral Home, Gladwin. The Rev.
Hal Weemhoff officiated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery. A Masonic service was held Monday at
