Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Adeline Vannatter

   Mae Adeline Vannatter, 78, died June 15 in LaCrescenta, CA, following a illness and hospitalization. A former Houghton Lake resident, she had made her home with her daughter, the Rev. Annalee Jean Weatherly, at LaCrescenta since the death of her husband Ernest. Mr. and Mrs. Vannatter were Gladwin residents in their earlier lives. She was the youngest daughter of George E. and Clara (Reigle) Wood and was born Dec. 14, 1901 in Gladwin County. She graduated from Gladwin High School and Gladwin County Normal. She later attended Central Michigan College at Mt. Pleasant.

   A teacher, she was employed in the Gladwin rural schools, teaching for 11 years in Buckeye Township. On Oct. 16, 1920 she was united in marriage to Ernest Vannatter of Gladwin. They operated an automobile repair garage in Gladwin for many years and later a resort on Houghton Lake where they lived until Mr. Vannatter's death. In addition to the daughter, she is survived by two grandchildren, Stefan S. Weatherly, 13, and Jody Ann Perkins, 21, both living in California. Three great grandchildren are Monica Marie Perkins, 3; Robert Scott Perkins Junior, 9; and Jennifer Perkins, 9 months, all also in California. Her third grandchild, Robert Scott Perkins, was killed in a California traffic accident a year ago at age 26. A memorial service was held at The Spiritual Sanctuary, LaCrescenta, on June 18. She was preceded in death by a brother, Herb Wood, of Gladwin, and a sister, Mrytle Behnke, also of Gladwin. Her only child, the Reverend Weatherly, is a pastor of the Spiritual Sanctuary, 4604 Pennsylvania Ave., LaCrescenta, CA. 91214.
