Anne Van Orden

   Anne E. Presidio Van Orden, 58, died in San Bernardino, California on Jan. 8, 2006. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 4, 1947. She earned a BA in Elementary Education at Central Michigan University, a Masters Degree in Curriculum (Reading) at Michigan State University, and a Masterís Degree in Education Administration at California State University, San Bernardino.

   Anne devoted her professional life to public education. Her educational career included teaching in Grand Ledge, Michigan, Beaverton, Michigan and Fontana, California. Her work in education focused on classroom teaching and professional development. Throughout her career in education, Anne was recognized for developing innovative teaching and learning strategies. Anneís principal teaching goal was to instill a love of reading in her students. Her professional development work included serving as a mentor teacher and curriculum trainer, authoring instructional materials, and presenting at many national and state educational conferences. Anne was the recipient of numerous achievement awards for her outstanding contributions to public education. Anne was a vibrant, dynamic woman who moved through the world with grace and humor.

   Family, friends and colleagues speak fondly of her intelligence and strong independent style. Like her own mother, Anne was an avid reader, and this simple pleasure was transferred to her students each year. With her warmth and generosity, Anne was a friend and role model to her son and all those who had the opportunity to share in her affectionate and giving spirit.

   Anne is survived by her husband, Robert Van Orden of San Bernardino, California; her son, Sloan Presidio of Bethesda, Maryland; her father, Adolph Presidio of Beaverton, Michigan; and her sister, Linda Cabose of Lansing. She was predeceased by her mother, Virginie Presidio.

   Burial will be in Beaverton on Jan. 18.
