Donald Vallender
Donald J. Vallender, 87, of Beaverton passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005. He was born Feb. 21, 1918 in Bay City to Stanley and Glenn (Mason) Vallender. He graduated from Bay City Central and Bay City Junior College. He worked at Dow Chemical and transferred to Dow Corning, where he worked 32 years as a research technician in the Silicon Division until his retirement in 1980. During his 65-year residency in Beaverton, he was a member of the Jaycees, Lions Club, Volunteer Fire Department, Beaverton School Board, Civil Defense and an elder in the Presbyterian Church.
Don met Ella Seltz in Midland in 1939. They married May 18, 1940 in Bay City. They raised 12 children. He was most proud of his family and his large garden. Surviving are his wife, Ella; children, James (Karen) of Freeland, Judith Ann (Jim) Hall of Alma, Jerald (Patti) of Beaverton, Janice (Duane) Brege of Traverse City, John (Irma) of El Paso, Texas, Joseph of Chicago, Jeanne (Bob) Lang of Beaverton, Joyce (Tom) Broka of Bay City, Julie (Paul) Hay of Beatrice, Nebraska, Jeffrey (Nancy) of Farmington, June (Chuck) Wallace of Old Town, Maine, and Joan Morris of Dominican Republic; 29 grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren; and one brother, Stanley Vallender of California. Two brothers, Edward and John, and baby brother Joseph predecease him.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Beaverton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Karen Blatt officiating. Burial was in the Beaverton City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sisson Funeral Home, Gladwin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the M.S. Society, the Beaverton Branch Library, or the First Presbyterian Church in Beaverton.
