Leon S. Thurston

   Leon S. Thurston, 74, of Midland, died Thursday, July 4, 1991, at MidMichigan Regional Medical Center. He was born in Grayling March 14, 1917. As a youth he moved to Midland where he was raised and educated. He married the former Harriet Hughes in Midland April 12, 1942.

   He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He worked at The Dow Chemical Company for 42 years, retiring in 1976. Leon attended aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Midland VFW 3651, Dow Retirees and the Parkinson's Support Group.

   He is survived by his wife, Harriet; sons James (Sachyeo) Thurston of Denver, Douglas (Barbara) Thurston of Edenville, Ronald (Barbara) Thurston of Sanford, Kim (Debra) Thurston of Nashville, Tenn., and Curtiss (Rosalyn) Thurston of Baton Rouge, La.; daughters Barbara (Jim) Zimmerman of Midland, Connie (Richard) Brabaw of Sanford, Sherry (Jesse) Gonzales of Freeland and Kathy Hansen of LaMase, Calif.; brothers Gordon Thurston of Midland and Donald Thurston of Hope; sisters Joyce Austin of Cadillac and Marion Laughton of Midland; sister-in-law Clara Thurston of Midland; 21 grandchidren; and several great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, 1991, from Wilson Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. David Stout of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will officiate.

   Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Northeast Chapter of Parkinson's Support Group or the Michigan Kidney Foundation.
