Benjamin Thorington
Benjamin Thorington, one of Midland county's old
settlers, died at his home in Coleman May 7 of stomach
trouble in his seventy-second year. He was a soldier
in the Civil war and settled in Midland county in
1864, residing for many years in Midland, and for
several years resided in Gladwin county. About six
years ago he moved to Coleman. A wife, six children,
John and Justus of Gladwin, Mrs. Ida Cowles, Mrs.
Maggie Coots and Mrs. Hattie Jones of Coleman, and
Mrs. Allie Anderson of St. Charles, survive. Five
brothers, Justin of Midland; Irs, James, Charles and
John; and three sisters, Mrs. Betsy Robinson, Mrs.
Sarah Rarick and Mrs. Ruth Rikard, all of whom live in
New York state, also survive. The funeral was
conducted under the auspices of Coleman post, G.A.R.,
and the remains were laid to rest in the Coleman cemetery.
