Death of Henry J. Taylor
FORMER WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT - - - OTHER WORK OF GRIM REAPER
TAYLOR---Henry J. Taylor died Aug. 3 at the home of
A. L. Malcolm in Midland where he had been staying
since April, going there after the death of his wife
which took place at Beaverton in February last. Mrs.
Malcolm was an aunt of Mrs. Taylor. He had been in bed
14 weeks with pneumonia previous to his death. Mr.
Taylor was one of the best known citizens of Gladwin
county, to which he moved from Loomis in the 80's. At
Loomis he had served as postmaster and conducted a
general store. In Gladwin county he served in many
official positions, including register of deeds, clerk
of Grout township, justice of the peace and assesor at
Beaverton, and minor positions, and was engaged in the
mercantile business at Beaverton.
Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the civil war, having
served four years with the Tenth Michigan infantry. He
was a member of Dwight May post and Center Lodge No.
273 F. & A.M. of Midland, and Court Eagle I.O.F. of
Gladwin, in the latter of which he carried $1000
insurance. Funeral services were held at the Baptist
church, Midland, conducted by Rev. J. A. Lowe, and the
body given a Masonic burial. Interment took place
beside his father and sister at Midland.
