Willard Charles "Wid" Taunt

Willard Charles "Wid" Taunt, 77, of Gladwin passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1995 at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland following a long illness. He was born Dec. 9, 1920 in Flint to John and Myrtle nee Norton Taunt. Wid married the former Betty Jean Meeks on Oct. 19, 1946 in the First Presbyterian Church of Flint. They moved to Gladwin in 1967 and started Taunt Electric. He remained active in the business until the time of his death.
He was a veteran of World War II. He served on the Gladwin Fire Dept. for 18 years and the Gladwin County Housing Commission for 12 years. Wid was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gladwin, charter member of the Gladwin Lions Club, a member of Lodge No. 397 of the Valley of Scottish Rite Masons and the Eastern Star White Clover Chapter 84 and the Elf Khurafeh Shriners.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, one son, Craig and Sherry Taunt of Gladwin, one daughter, Patti Taunt of Midland; six grandchildren, Jamie and Ashlee Taunt, Brent and Jennifer Mercer of Gladwin, and Ryan and Andrew Tetloff of Midland; two sisters, Shirley Taunt of Flint and Mary Ella Frankenfield of Swartz Creek, and three brothers, Norton Taunt of Florida, Jack and Marge Taunt of Texas, and Russell and Loretta Taunt of Swartz Creek. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Mildred and Ethel Annalbelle and one brother Harry.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 1998, at the First United Methodist Church in Gladwin. The Rev. Dr. Deane Wyllys will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin tonight from 7-9 p.m., Friday, 2-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. A Masonic Service will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the First United Methodist Church.
