Robert Tarzwell
Aug. 15, 2007, the town of Beaverton lost a great friend, father and leader.
Robert “Bob” Tarzwell, age 74, passed away at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland, after a three month battle with pneumonia.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1932 to Benjamin and Gladys (Eyre) Tarzwell in Bay City.
Bob moved to Beaverton in 1947 where he met and married his wife of 53 years Billie Stock. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Dow Chemical in Midland for 13 years as a lab technician. Bob then decided to change careers and began working at Schumacher Insurance Agency in Beaverton where he later took ownership of and retired in 1992.
He was a member of the Beaverton Lions Club for 45 years and also served Beaverton on the school board, city council and was mayor of Beaverton for 10 years. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church for many years. He also served on the Mid Michigan Community College Investment Board as well as the Gladwin Chapter of Veterans Affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Billie; sons, Randy (Sherri) Tarzwell of Midland, Rod (Renea) Tarzwell of Clarkston, Scott Tarzwell of Northville; grandchildren, Steve, Sara, Nicholas and Andrea; sister, Mary Lou Kent of Midland; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and sister, Ardythe (twins).
Funeral services were held Aug. 18, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Beaverton with Rev. Karen Blatt officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaverton First Presbyterian Church or Beaverton Lions Club Scholarship Fund.
