May F. Suylandt
SUDDEN DEATH
MRS. C. G. SUYLANDT PASSED AWAY TUESDAY MORNING
WITHOUT PREVIOUS ILLNESS.
At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dr. C. G. Suylandt, returning
home from a professional trip to Hockaday, found that
his wife had departed this life during his absence.
The doctor had departed from home in answer to a call
over the telephone at 1 a.m., Mrs. Suylandt at the
time being awake, apparently in good health and in a
cheerful frame of mind. Repeated failure of attempts
to communicate with her over the phone alarmed him,
and upon arrival home he immediately went in search of
her. When found by him, life appeared to have been
extinct for some hours, indications being that she
passed away painlessly while asleep, apoplexy being
assigned as the cause of her death.
The news of her death came as a great surprise to
her many friends. She had apparently been in the best
of health and spirits. May F. Suylandt was at the time
of her death 51 years of age. She was born in Jackson
county, this state. In 1882 she was married to Dr.
Suylandt, at Leslie, Mich. Two children were born to
the union and survive her, Anna M. Suylandt, a teacher
at Cleveland, Ohio and Wilbur, a son, attending
Oberlin college, Ohio. Two sisters survive her, Mrs.
W. H. Tyler of Stockbridge and Mrs. Susie Reynolds of
Leslie.
Dr. and Mrs. Suylandt located at Gladwin in 1884.
She was a member of the L.O.T.M. and of the O.E.S. She
was a woman of exemplary character, cheerful in
disposition , a faithful wife and mother. The time of
the funeral has not yet been fixed, but will probably
be held Friday afternoon from the residence..
