Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Leroy Sutherland

   Leroy Joseph Sutherland, 58, well known Gladwin pilot and resident was killed Thursday, Sept. 8, in a pland crash in Sanford, N.C. Born in Gladwin on July 26, 1919, he had spent his lifetime here. Mr. Sutherland was an executive and chief pilot for Champion Home Builders in Dryden. After serving as a pilot in the U.S. Army during World War II, he operated Sutherland Flying Service in Gladwin from 1945 to about 1950 when he became the pilot for Robinson Industries. Mr. Sutherland had been with the Champion company for 12 years. He also developed and owned Sutherland Trailer Park in the Wooden Shoe Village and was a member of the Gladwin Fraternal Order of Eagles 3292.

   Mr. Sutherland and the former Charlotte (Smith) Seltz were married on November 3, 1973, in Gladwin. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Vince (Jane) Schultz and Julie Sutherland, both of Freeland, 2 step-children, Mrs. Al (Lois) Arends and Keith Seltz, both of Gladwin; one brother, Hugh of California; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Coral) Lennon of Gladwin and Mrs. Harold (Winnie) Gross of New York.

   Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Father T. Edward Bennett will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the building fund of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Gladwin.
