Floyd Steele

Floyd M. Steele, 73, of Midland, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 9, 1934 in Gladwin, son of the late Joseph and Clara (Zimmer) Steele and served with the US Army from 1955-1957, spending most of that time in Germany.

On Feb. 1, 1959 he married the former Doris Crosby of Edenville.

Floyd started his career with the Dow Chemical Company in 1954 in the Saran Department and at the time of his retirement in 1992 he was a pipe fitter and multi trade employee in the DPO Plant. At one time he owned and operated his own landscaping business, was an avid “baseball dad” with the Southtown Little League, and in his later years loved spending the winters with his wife at their home in Zephyrhills, Florida. Floyd will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, love for his family and his self taught master carpentry skills that allowed him to create the beautiful home that he and his wife Doris shared for over 48 years.

Surviving besides Doris are his two sons and his two daughters and their spouses; David (Franchesca) Steele of Odessa, Texas, Rodney (Tricia) Steele of Midland, Kathy (Steve) Brabaw of Midland, and Cindy (Mike) Workosky of Herndon, Virginia; six grandchildren, Jessica and Nicole Brabaw, Chandler and Chase Steele, and Anna and Kate Workosky. Also surviving are his sisters, Armeda Cameron of Gladwin, Susan Kroll of Beaverton, and Lucille Windover of Midland; his sisters-in-law and their spouses, Rose Steele and Shirley and Max Guernsey, all of Beaverton, Marlene and Jerry Schultz of Sterling, Carole Bradshaw of Midland and Josephine Steele of Gladwin; his brothers-in-law and their spouses, Bing and Lois Crosby of Midland, Jim and Ellen Crosby of Tennessee, and Ernie Warner of Dewitt; and many nieces and nephews including his special nephew, Jim Steele of Jonesboro, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was predeceased by his step-father, Luther Moomaw; his brother, Richard Steele; his brothers-in-law, Charles Cameron, Bill Kroll and Woody Windover; his half brothers, George, Paul and Dean; and his half sisters, Donna Warner, Marie Raymond, Eva Vogt and Belva Liuzzo.

A funeral service was held Aug. 18, 2007 at the Ware-Smith- Woolever Funeral Chapel in Midland. Pastor Mel Hunt of the Jefferson Avenue Church of God officiated the service. He was laid to rest in the Homer Township Cemetery. Military graveside honors were conducted by the US Army.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society or Mid Michigan Hospice. You may share your condolences through www.waresmithwoolever. com.
