Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Elaine Squires

   Former Manistique resident Elaine E. Squires, 93, of Gladwin died Dec. 17, 2006 at the MidMichigan Gladwin Pines.

   She was born Oct. 22, 1913 in Wilson, the daughter of Thomas and Myrtle (LaCrosse) Boyd and attended schools in Norway, Michigan. She spent the greater part of her life in Norway, Manistique, Warren, Harrison and Gladwin.

   On Jan. 23, 1931 she married Hiram G. Squires in Garden, Michigan. He preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1978.

   Elaine was a member of the Leota Community Church, the Leota Women’s Group and the VFW Auxiliary in Harrison. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her time at the Antler Arms Senior Center. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

   She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Billy) Jones of Slaughters, Kentucky and Pearl (Bill) Carr of Warren; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Mott of Norway, Michigan; brother, Sonny Boyd of Elmonte, California; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Jones; sister, Gweny Boyd and brothers, Edward Jack, Steve, Roland and Raymond Boyd and Morry Peterson.

   Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique with Pastor Dennis Feuerstein officiating. Burial will be in the Thompson Township Cemetery in Thompson.
