Robert Smith
Robert “Bob” E. Smith, 77, of Gladwin, formerly of Clio, went home to heaven peacefully, surrounded by his family on July 30, 2007 at Covenant Harrison Campus in Saginaw, completing his courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born June 28, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Steve and Minnie Smith Bob was a graduate of Flint Northern High School and was a veteran of the Korean war conflict.
Bob married his sweetheart, Dolora A. Roth on May 15, 1954 in Flint. Together they enjoyed 48 years of marriage Bob is now reunited with ‘Dodie’ who preceded him in death May 22, 2002.
Bob was an avid, accomplished artist and woodcarver He taught Sunday school for many years at Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio, before retiring to the Gladwin area. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gladwin.
Bob was a supervisor at Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing, retiring in 1985 with more than 30 years of service.
Bob leaves behind to cherish his memory one son, Steve Smith of Costa Mesa, California; one daughter, Shannon (Darrell) Liddell of Clio; four grandchildren, Renate, Christa, Robert and Angela; two brothers, Jack (Janet) Smith of Gladwin and Bill (Lorraine) Smith of Gladwin; two sisters-in-law, Deanna Roth of Middleburg, Florida and Marcia Roth of Swartz Creek; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and his special companion, a yellow lab named Jake. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dodie; his parents, Steve and Minnie Smith; two brothersin- law, Bill Roth and Kurt Roth; mother-in-law, Angeline Roth; and one brother, Steve Smith.
Funeral services were conducted at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Aug 1, 2007 with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pastor Matthew Schultz officiated In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or The Foundation for Mott Community College.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr Frank Seck; Dr. Danso; the staff at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland; Dr. Iris; nurses Minnie, Julie and Yvonne; the wonderful staff at Covenant Harrison Campus; and The Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth.
