Leonard V. Smith
Leonard V. Smith, 77, of 1950 McClure Cemetery Rd., Gladwin, died Sunday, Jan.
9, in the Gladwin Area Hospital following a short illness. Born in Gladwin on October 17, 1899,
he was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion. He was married to the former Annie Merkle on June
6, 1931, in Gladwin.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Duane (Shirley) Paddock of Lansing and
Mrs. Charles (Joan) Carmey of Ionia; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Wolverton of Sandusky, Ohio; 6
grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Rites were held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Father Joseph
Castanier officiated and burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. A Wake Service was held Tuesday at
8 p.m. in the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel.
