Roger A. Simrau

RITES SET FOR VIET CASUALTY


  Military services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home for Sp/4 Roger A. Simrau, 25, of Gladwin, who was killed Nov. 17 in action in Viet Nam. Roger was Gladwin County's first casualty in the Viet war. He was fatally wounded while on a search and destroy mission. He was born in Gladwin on Nov. 2, 1940, to Henry and Mae Simrau, and graduated from Gladwin High School in 1960. Roger entered the Army on Dec. 10, 1963.

  Full military honors will be accorded Specialist Simrau with an honor guard and pallbearers from Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda. Surviving are his mother, eight sisters, Carleen Simrau, Houghton Lake, Mrs. Donna Dionne, Port Arthur, Texas, Mrs. Florence Hunt, Flint, Mrs. Margaret Hermes, Ionia, Mrs. Norma Jean Ward, Pinconning, Onalee Simrau, Gladwin, Mrs. Edith Bennett and Carol Simrau of Pinconning; four brothers, Richard of Saginaw, Howard of Clare, Ralph in the U.S. Army, Fort Dix, N. J., and Louis, of Gladwin.

  His father preceded him in death on June 15, 1965. The Rev. Ross Tracy will officiate and burial will be in Butman Cemetery. The young soldier's body will arrive in Gladwin Friday..
