Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
Juanita Simon

   Juanita L. Simon, 76, passed away April 27, 2008 at her home in Beaverton after a long illness.

   Juanita, daughter of the late Otis and Jessie (Shivel) Whitehouse, was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky Dec. 22, 1931 and was raised and educated in Beaverton. She lived in Gladwin County most of her life.

   Juanita achieved many accomplishments in her lifetime. She was crowned “Miss Beaverton” in 1948 and Beaverton High School Homecoming Queen in 1956.

   She received degrees from Mid Michigan Community College, Delta College and Central Michigan University. She was a secretary at Dow Chemical Company in Midland, and she also worked for MMCC, Brown Machine and Lyle Industries. She has also owned and operated the Beaver Isle in Beaverton and was a member of the VFW Post #7303 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and family gatherings.

   She married Robert G. Whitmer Sept. 3, 1949, he predeceased her April 13, 1955. She then married Joseph P. Simon Dec. 30, 1955, he predeceased her Sept. 15, 1983.

   Survivors included three sons, Ron (Donna) Whitmer of Beaverton, Dennis Whitmer of Beaverton and Chris Whitmer of Midland; one daughter, Joanne Merrick of Middleville, Michigan; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Otis Whitehouse of Beaverton, Bill (Rosemarie) Whitehouse of Beaverton, Ed (Pat) Whitehouse of Midland, Larry (Denise) Richardson of Coleman, Jerry (Jo) Richardson of Coleman and Jim (Vicki) Richardson of Coleman; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by two husbands; one daughter, Peggy; two brothers, John “Bud” Whitehouse and Robert “Bob” Whitehouse; her parents; and her stepfather, Delos Richardson.

   Per Juanita’s wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin.
