Barbara Shiffer
Barbara J. Shiffer, of Beaverton, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006 in Leesburg, Florida following a long battle with cancer. She was born March 28, 1936 in Dearborn the oldest child of Ralph and Uva Goich. Barbara met Harold Shiffer, also of Dearborn, and the couple was married on June 15, 1954 in Casa Grande, Arizona. After living in Alaska, they moved back to their home state of Michigan, and eventually settled as residents of Beaverton in Gladwin County. Some of Barbara’s employers included Chrysler Motor Company, West Branch Public Schools, and the Country Corner Store in White Star, which she and her husband owned and operated.
Barbara attended First Presbyterian Church in Beaverton. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was a talented interior decorator. She loved to entertain and was a gracious hostess to all who entered her home. She was a devoted, caring wife and mother and loving grandmother called "Honey." She was a kind and true friend, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and the many people she has touched in her lifetime.
Surviving are her husband, Harold; two sons, Ralph (Gail) of Gladwin and Randy (Bonnie) of Augusta; three grandchildren, Ralph (Gregory) and Ryan Shiffer of and Douglas (Shiffer) Smith, all of Gladwin; her sisters, Janet, Brenda and Jaqueline; a brother, Ralph; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and a sister, Marilyn, preceded her in death.
In accordance with her wishes, Barbara was cremated and a memorial service will be held in Beaverton later this spring. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Beaverton.
