Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
Don Shea

   Don (Papa) Shea, age 71, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007 at MidMichigan Medical Center- Midland following a long illness He was born on Sept. 9, 1935 in Hamilton Township, Clare County, to the late Mortimer and Dorothy (Baumann) Shea, Sr.

   He married the former Elizabeth (Betty) Brubaker in Gladwin on Jan. 4, 1958.

   Don worked as a farmer and for Dow as a pipe fitter, retiring from Dow in 1992. He was also active in Hamilton Township politics.

   Don loved life; especially family, friends, neighbors, hunting, fishing and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. After retirement, Don’s garage was the scene of the daily friends and neighbors’ coffee clutch; township politics and world problems were discussed and solved there. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Fr Artman Council #5280.

   Surviving besides his wife Betty are his children, Patrick (Pam) Shea, Julie (Phil) Slade, and Brenda (Don) Ranck, all of Gladwin, Mark (Tammy) Shea of Clare, Donna (Brett) Gower of Beaverton, Tim (Vicki) Shea of Gladwin, and Mike (Kim) Shea of Beaverton; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Haight, Nora Closs and Donna (Ron) Thompson, all of Midland, and Rose Ann (Frank) Barber of Auburn; one sister-in-law, AnnaLee Shea of Gladwin; one brother-inlaw, Jake Vitkuske of Midland; and many nieces and nephews.

   He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Mortimer Shea, Jr.; and three sisters, Margaret Shea, Fran Liddy and Mary Vitkuske.

   Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, June 25, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Cotter presiding with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

   Memorial contributions can be made to the Pardee Cancer Center, Clare or the Midland Community Cancer Services. Arrangements were made by Sisson Funeral Home.
