Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Benjamin E. Shaw


   Benjamin E. Shaw, aged 71 years, passed away suddenly at his home in Lakeville, near Oxford, Wednesday, December 21, following an illness due to complications. Benjamin E. Shaw was born Nov. 17, 1856, in Simco, Norfolk county, Ontario, Canada. He was united in marriage to Mary J. Dungey in Bay City, in 1887. Two daughters were born to this union, Mrs. Henry Binger of Lakeville, and Mrs. Henry Wilmink of Detroit, who together with the widow survive besides two sisters, Mrs. William Burdick and Mrs. S. C. Pinkerton, of Shaftsburg, and three brothers,, Bruce of Lansing; Hubert California; and one residence unknown, also two nephews, Don C. Pinkerton of Holly, and Carson H. Pinkerton of Lapeer. Fraternally Mr. Shaw was a member of Gladwin Lodge No. 177 I. O. O. F. and Royal Order of Moose No. 260 of Detroit. Funeral services were held from the home, and burial was made in the Lakeville cemetery. Mr. Shaw was a former resident of Gladwin, living here when he was married and for some time thereafter. He was one of the first to open a barber shop here, in the location now occupied by C. M. Pike, where he was in business a number of years under firm name of Shaw & Mclntyre. The latter passed away several years ago in Bay City, where he had a barber shop after leaving here, part of the time in the LeFever House.
