Richard Setzer
Services were held Friday, at 1:30 p.m., at Mathews Funeral Home for Richard
L. Setzer, 52, of Gladwin. Mr. Setzer suffered a heart attack on Tuesday, September 3, at 6:30
p.m., and was dead on arrival at the Gladwin Area Hospital. He was born in Ayersville, Ohio,
January 19, 1922, and had been a resident of Gladwin County since 1945, coming here from Flint
where he had been a resident several years. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy
from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Setzer and the former Mary Jane Balzer were married October 12, 1970.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane, 3 daughters, Mrs. Ron (Connie) McGinty of Roscommon, Mrs.
Ray (Kathy) Koerner of Okemos, and Mrs. Mike (Carol) Hopkins of Davison; his mother, Mrs. Clayton
(Fern) Thompson of Gladwin; a brother Robert Setzer of Flint; 7 step-children, Raymond, Marvin, and
Robert Balzer of Sao Paola, Brazil, Mrs. Richard (Betty) McColley of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Steven
(Dorothy) Miller of Midland; Mrs. Richard (Connie) Arthur of Coleman; and 19 grandchildren.
Philip Geeck officiated at the services and burial was in Highland Cemetery.
