Jerome Secord
PVT & BLACKSMITH
On Monday, June 14, 1886, at his residence in Gladwin township, Jerome Nathaniel
Secord, aged 46 years and 10 months. Mr. Secord has for over a year past suffered from that fatal
disease, hereditary consumption, from the effects of which he has been confined to his house about
six months. He has been a patient sufferer, and died resigned to his fate. He was visited by Rev.
S. C. Tiney in February last, and expressed a desire to experience a change of heart, and at a visit
in March following testified that he had found peace with his God, saying he felt prepared to die.
He was baptized March 9, 1886, Mr. Tiney officiating.
The deceased had been a resident of Gladwin county during the past 15 years, having came here from
Shiawassee county, where he was born and grew to manhood. He was also married in that county to Miss
Bridget Rurk, who survives him with seven children, two of whom are married. Deceased was an honest,
upright and industrious citizen.
Funeral services had been arranged to be held Wednesday, but owing to rapid decay the body was buried
Tuesday in the Gladwin cemetery, and the funeral service adjourned until Sunday next at 10:30 a.m.,
when they will be conducted by Rev. S. C. Tiney at the Presbyterian church in Gladwin.
