David C. Scott
One of the oldest residents of Tobacco township,
David C. Scott, died Friday, April 15, of bright's
disease, aged 74. Mr. Scott settled in Tobacco in
1878, where his family was reared and he cleared a
large farm. He was born in Ireland in 1836, and was
united in marriage there in 1862 to Letitia Dow (a
sister to the late James G. Dow of Tobacco), who
survives. To the union were born three sons and three
daughters, of whom five of the children are living:
William J. of Tobacco, James of Beaverton, and Norman
of Flint; Eliza, married to Aaron Lince, lives at
Shroeder, Minn., Hattie, married to Walter Fairchild,
lives in Benzie county.
Mr. Scott settled in Lewis county, N.Y., in 1865,
there residing until coming to Gladwin county. He was
a member of the Presbyterian church. The esteem in
which he was held was attested by the large attendance
of old friends and neighbors at the funeral held
Sunday at the residence at Dale, where burial took
place.
