Stanley Sampson
Stanley Sampson, 81, of Gladwin passed away after a short illness, on Feb. 4, 2007, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland.
Stanley was born on Feb. 7, 1925 in Gladwin County, to Albert and Nellie (Kern) Sampson.
He worked as a hydroelectric operator at Wolverine Power in Edenville for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was currently employed by the State of Michigan as a drug screener for Gladwin County Probate Court.
Stanley was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II.
On Nov. 5, 1944, Stanley married Ruby Shorts in Columbia, South Carolina.
Stanley spent his entire life in Gladwin County, and was an Elder of Community Christ Church and a member of the Gladwin County Republican Party. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and special trips out West with his wife.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Sampson of Gladwin; one daughter, Kay (Roger) Wiltse of Gladwin; three granddaughters, Melissa (Matt) Knopf of Gladwin, Kimberly (Bill) Penix of Gladwin, and Anne (Steve) Levine of Gladwin; 11 great-grandchildren, Chad, Katie, Wyatt, Kellie, Mariah, Jared, Kylie, Ben, Kaitlyn, Faith, and Melissa; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Alice (Ross) Salyer of Allegan, and Delores (Wayne) Cronk of Gladwin; and one brother, Arch (Pat) Sampson of Harrison. He is predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter; three brothers, Jimmy, Boyd and Ralph; and one sister, Nellie Hollenbaugh.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, with Elder Lyle Hanson officiating. Military rites will be performed by Gladwin County VFW. Burial will take place at McClure Cemetery in Gladwin.
