Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Robert Rule

   Robert Eugene Rule, 87, of Gladwin, passed away at his home on Sept. 4, 2007.

   He was born in Ottawa, Kansas on Dec. 19, 1919 to George and Mamie (Hodges) Rule.

   He retired in 1977 from Bancroft Trucking in Saginaw where he was a truck driver. He served his country in the United States Navy and in World War II. He served from Aug. 4, 1941 to Jan. 27, 1947 on the following ships: U.S.S. L.S.T. 823, U.S.S. A.P.L. 33, and U.S.S. Alcor. He received the American Defense Ribbon, the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one star, and the World War II Victory Medal.

   He had resided in Gladwin County since 1977, previously residing in Flint. During his retirement he was active on the Secord Township Board of Review and treasurer of the Senior Citizens Memorial Center on Highwood Road for over 20 years. Robert married Alaire Constance (Connie) Hart on June 28, 1947 in Mt. Morris.

   He is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Rodney) Claypool, Evelyn (Ernest) Curie and Dorothy (Duane) Claypool, all of Gladwin; grandson, Randall (Michelle) Claypool of Gladwin; granddaughters, Bethany Claypool and Jacquelyn Claypool of Shepherd, and Sandra Claypool of Sudan, Africa; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nicoli and Becca Claypool of Gladwin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alaire in 2005; and son, Eugene in 1955.

   Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 7, 2007 at Hall- Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin. Pastor Phil Hortop and Gladwin V.F.W. Post #11256 officiated the service. He was laid to rest in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin. Memorial contributions can be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators, PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862-8200, with a memo for Sandra Claypool’s ministry.
