Sterling Roy
Former Gladwin County Young Man Tires of Life Sterling Roy Turns on the Gas and Is Found Dead at His Home in Flint.
Sterling Roy of Flint, formerly of Butman township, committed suicide early Saturday morning by turning on the gas at his new residence at 1421 James street, Flint, which was to have been his home after his marriage this week to Miss Emma Moffatt. Mr. Roy left a note saying that his troubles in the last two years had been more than he could stand. Sterling Roy was born March 19, 1899, in Tennessee, and came to this county in 1901 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Roy, who located at Lake Four in Butman township. He was a collector for the Flint Sausage Co., and was held in high esteem by the firm and all those who knew him. He is survived by two children, a daughter of 6 and a son of 4, his parents, five brothers, William, George, Charles and Gaylord of Flint and Edwin at home with his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Alex Benmark and Mrs. Andrew Leroy Brown of Flint. The body was brought to Gladwin Tuesday and services were held at the undertaking rooms of Rogers & Neely in the afternoon at 1 o'clock conducted by Elder George Burt of Beaverton. Burial took place in Highland cemetery.
