George W. Rowley
OLD SOLDIER IS CALLED TO BIVOUAC OF THE DEAD - - -
G. W. ROWLEY OF GLADWIN
George W. Rowley died Monday at 8:30 a.m. at his
home in the west side of the city from the effects of
a severe cold and heart failure. Mr. Rowley was born
May 23, 1843, in Ingham county and has been a resident
of the city 26 years. He served three years in the
Civil War as a member of the Twenty-sixth Michigan
Infantry and received his honorable discharge after
being severely wounded. He was a member of the Gladwin
G.A.R. post.
He was the father of eight children --- four sons,
Arthur, Fred, Richard and Robert; four daughters, Mrs.
Lillian Bright, Lansing; Mrs. May Foglesong, Forest
Hill; Miss Pearl Rowley, Chicago and Mrs. Alma Lehman,
Gladwin, --- all living except Robert.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock
at the residence conducted by Rev. C. W. King. The
body was taken to Williamston Thursday for interment
beside his wife who preceded him a few years
since.
