George W. Rohde
George W. Rohde was born at Constantia,
New York, September 22, 1829, and died Jan. 22, 1917,
at the age of 87 years and 4 months at the home of his
step-daughter, Mrs. William Tuohy, in Beaverton
township, with whom he had made his home since the
death of his wife 15 years ago. He entered the service
of the U.S. as a private in Co. L. First Regiment
Mounted Rifles of New York State Volunteers, August
15, 1862, and was discharged June 12, 1865.
Forty years ago he came west, following his
vocation as a hoop maker, spending several years in
Indiana and Ohio, later location on a farm in Paulding
county, Ohio. Fourteen years ago he took up his
residence in Beaverton. Besides his step-daughter,
Mrs. Tuohy, he leaves two sons, Enoch and Frank, of
New York state, and 12 grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, also a host of friends and
neighbors to mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held the 25th at the
Evangelical church of Bard by Rev. C. B. Frampton.
Interment in the Grout cemetery. His three nieces,
Mrs. Eda Padgett and Mrs. Allie Smith of Detroit, and
Mrs. George Rohde of New York state, also Mrs. John
Tuohy and Nellie Tuohy of Mount Pleasant attended the
funeral.
