James Robertson Sr.
James Robertson, Sr., 87, of Gladwin passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008 in Sarasota, Florida.
James was born in Tango, West Virginia May 3, 1920 to Walter and Brooke (Lawson) Robertson. He married Evelyn Lang Dec. 26, 1942 in Florida.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. James worked in real estate for Kigar Realty, Century 21 and then retiring from Kehoe Realty in 1999. James Sr. was very active in the Gladwin community. He was treasurer of the board of education from 1961 to 1968, a city council member from 1955 to 1957, mayor of Gladwin from 1967 to 1991, president of the Development Corp 1963, and a founder and former director of the Gladwin County Chamber of Commerce. He was on the M.M.L. Board of Directors from 1979 to 1982 and became the president in 1981. In 1986, he became a life member and also chairman of Region VII in the M.M.L. He was on the League Special Task Force of Small Cities & Villages and the advisory council for the National League of Small Cities & Villages.
James served on the State Advisory Committee under Govs. Milliken & Blanchard. He was elected Man of the Year in 1972, served on the MidMichigan Gladwin Pines Board, and owned/operated Robertson Insurance Agency in Gladwin.
James Sr. is survived by his wife, Evelyn Robertson of Gladwin; one daughter, Sharon (Tom) Newton of Midland; two sons, James Jr. (Dody) Robertson of Gladwin and Joel (Vickie) Robertson of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Roberta Bailer of Birch Run; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Norma Wagner; and one brother, Randy Robertson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin with Pastor Joe Dorais officiating. A luncheon will be held following the service at the Gladwin Community Arena.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gladwin Emmanuel Baptist Church.
