Neil Rise
NEIL WILFORD RISE DIES IN AIR MISHAP

   Flight Officer Neil W. Rise 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rise, of Beaverton, was killed Sunday in the crash of a military plane which had a glider in tow near Victorville, California. Flight Officer Wilbur Boyd, of Washington D.C., co-pilot of the plane, was killed. Three other members of the crew parachuted to safety and a fourth is missing, according to Army officials.

   Neil is the fifth Gladwin county boy to die in service and the second from the Beaverton area within two weeks time. Born September 3, 1919, he graduated from Woodland High School in 1938 and was employed by the Hastings Manufacturing Company until his enlistment in the Army in October of 1940. He was accepted for flying training in June of 1941 and completed the Primary School at Jackson, Mississippi, and the Basic School at Greenville, Mississippi, prior to entering the Napier Field Flying School in Alabama. He was graduated as a full-fledged pilot from the Napier training school in October of this year.

   He was married on October 5th of this year to Miss Juanita Walley, of Hattisburg, Mississippi, who survives. Other survivors include his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rise; a sister, Mrs. Louise Estep, of Sunfield; and a brother Zack, at home.
