George Rieley
George Clay Rieley, 86, of Lake City passed away at his home Sept. 6, 2006. He was born June 13, 1920 in Beaverton to Rev. E.C and Catherine (Patterson) Rieley.
He was an honor graduate of Beaverton High School, attended Hemphill Diesel Engineering School of Chicago, Illinois and was a registered diesel engineer.
He worked at Dow Chemical for several years. He established an excavating/real estate business in the Detroit Metropolitan area. He purchased a 560 acre ranch near Lake City, where he lived with his wife Jeanne, and grandsons Eric and Jason. They raised beef cattle, Christmas trees, Belgian horses and more.
George was accepted into the 2001-2002 National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals and is registered in the Library of Congress. He was nominated as Man of the Year 2002 by the American Biographical Institute, Inc. He was a member of the Lake City Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he served as an adult Sunday school class teacher since the mid 1980s and served as a member of the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Gideons International, and member of the West Branch Township board of review for over twenty years.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Jeanne; son, John of New York, New York; grandsons, Eric and Jason Nikolitch of Lake City; son-in-law, Barry Nikolitch of Lake City; brother, John of White Pigeon; sister-in-law, Myra Scoby of Mt. Clemens; brother-in-law, Ed Morgan of Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Radtke and Velma Rieley Coon; and daughter Kathleen.
Graveside service was Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006 at the West Branch Township Cemetery. A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 11 at the Lake City Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald VanDyke officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Gideons International or the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements were by the Young Funeral Home in Lake City.
