John Rich
FORMER ROAD HEAD DIED WEDNESDAY
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Beaverton Church of the Brethren for John C. Rich, 80, year old pioneer resident of Gladwin county. Mr. Rich passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ottomer McKimmy, following a month's illness. The son of Andrew and Magodeling Rich, he was born August 6, 1874 at Unionville. He came to Gladwin county in 1896 and has spent the rest of his life here. On September 14, 1898 he was married to the former Miss Agnes Dow, who preceded him in death January 18, 1954.
Mr. Rich was a member of the Lutheran church. He owned and operated a farm in Tobacco township for many years and served 12 years, from 1920 until 1932, as road superintendent for the Gladwin County Road Commission. About eight years ago, because of failing health the Richs moved to Beaverton where they resided until Mrs. Rich's death in January when he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. McKimmy, who survives him. He also leaves six grandchildren, one brother William Rich of Unionville; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Graf of Ann Arbor.
The Rev. Ernest Jehnsen, pastor of the Beaverton Church of the Brethren, officiated at the rites Sunday, and burial was made in Dale Cemetery.
