Norman Rice
Norman Rice, 67, of Gladwin, died Tuesday, June, 1997 at his home. Born Dec.
11, 1929 in Detroit to Abraham and Rose Asher Rice, Norman came to Gladwin at the age of eight.
He and his father opened Rice Furniture in 1947. Norman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean
Conflict. Afterward, he returned to Gladwin and continued to operate the store. Norman married
Elizabeth Kravat on Dec. 24, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they ran the furniture store until
its closing in 1986.
Norman was a member of the Gladwin Rotary Club, and he served on the Gladwin Development Corp.
He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the National Interior Design Society,
the charter president of the East Michigan Interior Design Society, and the chairman of the United
Jewish Appeal.
Surviving Norman are his wife, Betty; two daughters, April of Grand Rapids, and Spring of Boca
Raton, Fla.; one brother, Eugene and wife Linda of Hollywood, Fla.; and one sister, Doris Mehl and
husband Don of Bloomington, Minn. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sisson Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 7-9 Wednesday and from 2-9 Thursday. Memorials may be made to MidMichigan Hospice.
