Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
John Porter

   John M. Porter, 73, of Midland, formerly of Gladwin, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 2007 at MidMichigan Gladwin Pines.

   John was born July 1, 1934 in Wayne, Michigan to Glenn and Lela (Stewart) Porter. He graduated from Mt. Clemens High School and attended Wayne State University.

   He married the former Muriel Fillmore on Aug. 6, 1955 in Mt. Clemens. Muriel passed away on May 3, 2005.

   John served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan.

   After the war, he was a substitute math teacher. The couple lived in Gladwin from 1974 to 1983 then moved to Midland. John worked at Midland Area Homes as a cabinet maker. He later became a licensed builder and also worked in the tool and die industry.

   John loved the outdoors, going camping, hunting and fishing. He was also a target shooting specialist and loved to travel.

   Surviving are three children, Kimrea L. Muma of Sanford, Karre (Mark) Ballard of Gladwin, Kraig (Kami) Porter of Coleman; grandchildren, Marea and Rodney Trotter, Hunter and Forrest Jacobs, Ashlyn Hill, Patrick and Jared Porter, and Jenna, Jonathon and Rebecca Ballard; one great-grandson, Caeven Trotter; two brothers, Jack (Steph) Porter of Cook, Minnesota and Jim (Sue) Porter of Twin Lakes, Minnesota; and two sisters, Marsha Osland of Cook, Minnesota and Glenda (John) Delaney of Clinton Township.

   Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Gladwin. Rev. David Sprang will officiate. Visitation is at the church from noon until time of service. Graveside service are at noon Friday, Aug. 17 at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Mt Clemens.

   Arrangements were handled by Sisson Funeral Home, Gladwin.
