Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Sherman Perry

   Sherman Arlo “Sherm” Perry, 92, of Gladwin, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008, at MidMichigan Gladwin Pines. He was born Dec. 29, 1915, in Tobacco Township, the son of Arthur D. and Mary P. (Richter) Perry.

   Sherm was raised in Frost and Hamilton Townships in Clare County and in Sage Township in Gladwin County. He attended the Allen and Smith Creek schools. He settled with his parents on a farm located on Howard Road in Grout Township in 1934. Along with farming, he did mechanic work. He retired from farming in 1976. He loved old tractors, riding motorcycles and old cars, especially Kaizer Fraizers. He and his brother built their first motorcycle when he was about 14 years old. He was a member of the Beaverton Rods and Relics for nine years, a member of the Kaizer Fraizer International for 35 years. He was always willing to help neighbors. He could be seen in many parades driving his 1954 Darrin.

   Sherm was preceded in death by is parents; three brothers, Kenneth, William and Edson; two sisters, Lorraine Hughes and Eva Newman; a daughter, Lois Henderson in March of 1988; and a grandson, Steven Perry in August of 2001.

   He is survived by his wife, Lydia, whom he married on June 26, 1943; son Lee (Virgie) Perry of Gladwin; grandchildren Lisa Pashket of Flint, Shelly (Keith) Bohannon of Dalton, Georgia, Shannon (Matt) Novenske of Alanson, and Tamra Govitz of Midland; four great-grandchildren; five stepgreat- grandchildren; one great-greatgranddaughter; special nephew Kenneth Perry of St. Johns; brother-inlaw John (Maxine) Belert of Gladwin; and sister-in-law Dorothy Yager of Midland; and several nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at the Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin with Tom and Esther Rodabaugh officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 14 from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin.

   Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sherman to the Community of Christ Church in Beaverton. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
