Elsie Pendleton

Elsie Syrena (Lake) Pendleton

On July 20, 2006, with her beloved husband of 59 years, Donn W. Pendleton, at her side, our cherished wife and mother, Elsie Syrena (Lake) Pendleton, passed peacefully on to the next chapter of her marvelous journey.

She resided at home, on Badger Road, in Beaverton for 52 years, until her recent move to Edna Mae’s Leisurely Living home in Gladwin, where she was lovingly cared for until her death.

Elsie was born on April 24, 1926 in Petoskey, daughter of the late William and Ada Lake.

She was employed by Michigan Bell for a number of years, as well as holding several other positions prior to her retirement from the Gladwin area hospital approximately 20 years ago.

She was a long time active and vital member of the Community of Christ congregation in Gladwin, holding the priesthood office of teacher. She loved going to church and interacting with her church family. One of her great joys was teaching the adult Sunday school class, which she did for many years until this past year when her health required her to step down.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Patti Reeks (Gilles Proulx) of Ottawa, Ontario, Donn II of McMillan, Peggy Bechtel (Darrell) of Croswell, Debra Garvin (Joe) of Shepherd, and Eric (LuAnn) of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Jeff and Jason (Cynthia) Reeks, Shelly (Doug) Bean and Mike (Birdie) Bechtel; Jessica and Adam Garvin; and Erica and Adam Pendleton; Great-grandchildren, Kyle Bean, Jessica Bechtel, and Emma and Abby Reeks; brother Eldon (Lita) Lake; niece and loving friend Dorothy Pidcock; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her long-time, good friend Linda Coney. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas and a sister, Ocy Moyer.

A celebration of her life was held at Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin on July 24, 2006. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gladwin Community of Christ building fund, (c/o Heidi Kleinhardt, 3350 S. Rogers Ave., Clare, MI.
