On Aug. 28, 2007, our cherished father and grandfather, Donn William Pendleton, husband of the late Elsie (Lake) Pendleton, passed peacefully on to join his Savior.
He resided at home on Badger Road in Beaverton for 53 years, until his move to Edna Mae’s Leisurely Living home in Gladwin, where he was lovingly cared for until his death.
Donn was born on June 27, 1922 in Beaverton, son of the late Samuel and Lottie Pendleton. He attended the Beaverton school system and later joined the army to serve his country, completing over five years of active duty in World War II, specifically serving throughout Northern Africa, Sicily, Italy and France in General Patton’s 3rd army. In addition, he was recalled and went into active combat in Korea during the Korean conflict.
He worked for more than 40 years for the Dow Corning Corporation and retired from engineering to go into full time ministerial appointment for the Community of Christ church of which he was a member his whole life.
He was a long time active and vital member of his church’s congregation in Gladwin, holding the priesthood office of evangelist. He served the church faithfully throughout Michigan for over 50 years, traveling to many congregations and campgrounds providing various types of ministry. He was particularly involved for many years with the church campgrounds at Sanford.
The following include some other significant contributions he made: working with youth, providing prison ministry, senior residence visitation, singing, congregational pastor, district president, and regional staff member.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Patti Reeks (Gilles Proulx) of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Donn II of McMillan, Peggy (Darrell) Bechtel of Croswell, Debra (Joe) Garvin of Shepherd, and Eric (LuAnn) of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Jeff and Jason (Cynthia) Reeks, Shelly (Doug) Bean and Mike (Birdie) Bechtel, Jessica and Adam Garvin, and Erica and Adam Pendleton; great-grandchildren, Kyle Bean, Jessica Bechtel, Emma and Abby Reeks; niece, Dorothy Pidcock; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
