CURRAN PAYNE


  Curran Payne, one of the early residents of Beaverton, died July 23, at his home at Beaverton after an illness of four months. He was born Sept. 2, 1858, at Leslie, Ill., and was married at Morley, Michigan, to Miss Edith Swiger, who preceded him in death in February of this year. Mr. and Mrs. Payne removed to Midland and from there to Beaverton where he, for a considerable period was employed as filer in the Ross shingel mills. He lived in Tobacco township limits and was at one time supervisor of that township. His residence in Gladwin county covered a period of approximately 40 years.

  He is survived by a son and a daughter, Edson Payne, Flint, and Mrs. Rosa Schaick, Beaverton. Two sons, Frank and Cassius Payne, have preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. William McKimmy, and interred in the family burial lot at Highland cemetery, Gladwin. Pall bearer were Sam Asch, John Sloat, D. Clingerman, Otis Midkiff, Ira Fike and Lyman Reed.
