William Netmop Sr.
William C. Netmop, Sr., 77, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Gladwin, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
Bill was born Saturday, March 7, 1931 in Tuscola, Michigan, the son of William and Beatrice Viola (Keezhig) Netmop.
Bill married Mavis Jean Pitz April 4, 1966 in Gladwin County. Bill was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area for the past seven years, but spent most of his life in the Gladwin area. He was a truck driver for Gladwin County Road Commission for many years, and in early adulthood, he worked as a farm hand. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Private First Class from Feb. 19, 1952 until his discharge Feb. 10, 1954. He was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and attended Faith Indian Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed CB radios, hunting and fishing.
Bill is survived by his children, William (Cindy) Netmop Jr., Mary (Mike) Floyd and Robert (Sue) Netmop, all of Mt. Pleasant, Sharon (Ron) Sasse and Rita (John) Bills, all of Gladwin, and Lorene McArthur of Gaylord; family members raised by Bill and Mavis include David Detzler and his friend Karrie Knapp, Annette Buckner, Brenda and Don Schlegel, Christina McArthur and Christal McArthur, all of Mt. Pleasant. He was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis on Oct. 14, 2007; both parents; a son, Rodney Netmop; a grandson, David Bills; and sister, Anna (Netmop) Detzler.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Doyle Perry of the Faith Indian Church of the Nazarene officiating. She was laid to rest in McClure Cemetery in Gladwin. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
