Albert Muirhead
Albert I. Muirhead, 93, of Sugar Springs, formerly of Saginaw, Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at the MidMichigan Gladwin Pines Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 30, 1913 in Shields. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1931. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” like his father Russell. He was employed at Saginaw Malleable Iron Foundry in skilled trades as an electrician for 33 years. He served on the Jamestown Fire Department.
He married Pauline O. Aspin May 1, 1936. They moved to the Gladwin area after retirement. Pauline predeceased him Oct. 18, 1981. He later married Bernice Quinlan, who also predeceased him. He then married Elsie Dicken, making their home in Sugar Springs for twelve years. She predeceased him as well.
Albert loved to dance. He was one of the original organizers of the Saginaw Archers Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, hunting antelope, mule deer and elk in New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming, hunting bear and moose in Canada, and hunting ducks on the Shiawassee Flood Plains. His granddaughter Kelly says, “Thank you, Grandpa, for teaching me how to fish.” He will always be remembered by the examples he set in a hardworking life, not expecting anything he didn’t earn, and treating others with fairness and respect.
Surviving are one daughter, Janet (Donald) Birnbaum of Saginaw; one son, Dennis (Glenda) Muirhead of Tijeras, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Scott (Jackie) Crofoot, Jeff (Mara) Crofoot, Todd (Tracy) Muirhead, and Kelly Brewer; eight greatgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their families, and other relatives. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Birnbaum and by several brothers and sisters.
His family extends special thanks to the MidMichigan Gladwin Pines Nursing Home for their kindness and care.
Funeral services took place Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel in Saginaw. Pastor Larry Starke officiated and burial was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
