Charles Moon
BURY OTISVILLE PIONEER TODAY
Otisville, June 4.---Funeral services were held today from the Otisville M. E. church for
Charles Moon, 65 years old, Civil war veteran, and resident of this vicinity for more than 50
years, who died Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. McComb, following an illness of 10 days.
He had been in poor health for the last five months. Ten days ago he was scalded about the head
and body, when he upset a kettle of hot water.
Rev. E. McCurrey officiated and burial was in Smith Hill cemetery. He was born in Pennslyvania,
March 4, 1843. He was a member, and one of the first trustees of the M. E. church. He also had served
as justice of the peace, and was one of the first directors of the Ottisville State bank. On April 16,
1863, he married Marie Lown, who died five years ago. During his active life he was a carpenter and
farmer. He leaves eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Maud Fathergill,
of Manchester, Tenn.
