Harold Monroe
Harold B. Monroe, 83, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 at his residence.
Harold was born Feb. 2, 1923 in Hillsdale, the son of Benjamin and Starleigh (Chilson) Monroe.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Hillsdale College. He taught at schools for many years, including Gladwin Junior High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW. Some of Harold’s favorite pastimes were gardening, playing cards, reading, and history. But the most important part of his life was spending time with his family.
Harold leaves behind four daughters, Susan Monroe of Mt. Pleasant, Laura (Mark) Wilson of Gladwin, Diane Monroe of Council Bluff, Iowa, and Cathy (Jim) Ball of Piedmont, Missouri; nine grandchildren; three Greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Florene Demgeot of Hillsdale and Annabelle (Norman) Green of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leon and Jerry; and two sisters, Rolene and Leona.
Cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned.
