John T. Middleton
John T. Middleton died Fef 14, 1923, of bronchitis
at his home in Sage township after several days
illness. He was born April 2, 1840, in Indiana and was
aged 82 years, 10 months and 12 days. He enlisted at
Indianapolis Nov. 29, 1861, in Company C. 47th
regiment Indiana infantry volunteers. At the close of
the war he came to Michigan. Here he married Miss
Sarah Ann Eldridge, who preceded him to the great
beyond. Later he married Miss Emma Reinhardt who
survives him, with two children by his first marriage,
Mrs. Ernest Gower of Sage township and Joseph H.
Middleton of Billings township, and a number of
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Middleton believed in what he called the "Old
Time Religion." He was a very kind, patient and simple
man, patriotic to his country and fraternal to his
fellow men. Uncle John, as he was called will be
greatly missed. Funeral services were held at the M.
E. church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. F.
Burkey, Interment in Highland cemetery.
