James McPherson
James H. McPherson died with a complication of diseases May 27, 1925, after
an illness of 14 years at his home on his farm at Rhodes. He was born Feb. 26, 1853, in Canada,
came to Michigan in 1874, and was married May 27, 1877, to Miss Mary E. Merrill at Pontiac, who
survives with four daughters: Mrs. William Hoffman, Rhodes; Ella, at home; Mrs. Alec Nestell of
Rhodes, and Mrs. Henry Rickett of Edenville, and three sons, James H., Robert A. and William F.
McPherson of Alpena. After coming to Michigan, he lived at Pontiac and Sandusky and came to Rhodes
in 1914. He had been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church for 15 years and was a true and
faithful Christian until his death. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and will be greatly
missed in his community. To know him was to love him.
Funeral services were held at the Estey schoolhouse Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., May 31, conducted
by Elder Summerville of Traverse City. Interment was in Rhodes cemetery. Pallbearers were E. C.
Nettleton, Henry Marshall, August Webeck, Daniel Chapman, Charles Hunt and William Chubb.
